Otsimo that provides quality education opportunity for children with autism, became the first Changemaker of the 9th season of the Sabancı Foundation Turkey’s Changemakers Program.

Autism is a mental development disorder, causing problems in social interaction and communication, as well as repeated behaviours. The only treatment to autism today is quality special education through early diagnosis. However, the special education is difficult and costly. Thus, to ease this process, Zafer Elcik developed a game based application with his friends. It is called Otsimo…

Although offical numbers are unknown, according to the research of civil society organizations there are more than 350 thousand children with autism in Turkey. An important part of this children can’t reach the special education they need. Otsimo aims to contribute to the special education process of children without any cost, and ensure that they continue to take education in inclusive schools with their peers with no disability. Application can be used in tablets and smart phones. Games in Otsimo are prepared through an educational method called Applied Behaviour Analysis. After being tested by a pedagog and a special education teacher, games are ready for use.

Today, Otsimo is used by more than 10 thousand individuals with autism in Turkey and the world. Families underline the changes they realize in their children after using the application.

Zafer Elcik developed Otsimo, through his personal story. He touched the lives of individuals with autism and their families. And thus, he made a huge difference in his life, as well as the lives of individuals with autism.
