Purple Certificate Program

Launched in 2007, the Purple Certificate Program is a gender education program targeting high school teachers in the provinces of Istanbul, Izmir, Kars, Nevsehir, Sanliurfa, Trabzon and Van. Since its inception, a total of 2144 teachers, students and women have attended seminars and training programs. Furthermore, a total of 206 high school teachers attended the intensive week-long program at the Sabanci University campus in Istanbul thereby earning a ‘Purple Certificate’. ‘Purple Certificate’ has been certified as an in-service training program by the Ministry of Education in Turkey.

The Goals of the Purple Certificate Program:

  • To make gender studies the core of high school education, and to reflect the sensibility on this issue on both various classes and social activities.
  • To raise the awareness of high school teachers and students on the human rights of women.
  • To form a common ground among participants about gender.
  • To focus on the principle of ‘learning how to learn’ and to empower and support high school teachers to develop strategies about education with gender awareness.
