The first cycle of the Grant Program began in 2007 and attracted 65 applications, of which 30 were invited to present their projects to a jury. Of these 30 applications, 11 were selected and awarded a total of 104.000 USD. In 2008, the program attracted 84 applications of which 11 were selected. In 2009, 71 applications were received between February 24 - April 17 and 24 were short listed. Final winners will be announced on June 22 2009. For 2009 projects please click here..
The program aims to support projects that address key priorities identified in the "Local Equality Action Plans" (LEAP) and are developed by NGOs and other local partners in six cities. The Local Equality Action Plans (LEAP) are developed in each province with the active participation of different stakeholders. The main objective of the LEAP is to define the needs of women and girls, and prepare action plans to achieve equal economic, social and political strategies and policies to create "Women-Friendly Cities".
The Joint Program aims to increase NGO and local government involvement in enhancing the rights of women and girl children in Turkey, with the ultimate goal of creating “Women Friendly Cities”. Selected projects aim to promote public awareness and address issues such as domestic violence, inclusion of women in decision-making, increasing access to government services delivery, and promoting economic independence and employment.
