Sabanci Foundation's "Turkey's Changemakers" TV program shares inspiring stories of individuals who make a difference in social and economic development.

The 22nd episode of Sabanci Foundation's "Turkey's Changemakers" tells the story of Rodin Alper Bingol.

Rodin Alper Bingol is a senior student in visual communications design at Bilgi University in Istanbul. Rodin Alper Bingol works for the active participation of people with disabilities to the production processes and social life through "Removing Barriers Movement".

Rodin Alper Bingol prepared a thesis, titled as "Removing Barriers" for his studies at Bilgi University in 2009. After a while his project has grown with the support of many individuals and organizations.

Removing Barriers Movement works for the recognition of individuals' right to make an independent choice and improve the abilities, and therefore it aims to reduce the dependencies of individuals by reaching them. To achieve its goals, Removing Barriers Movement organized an awareness campaign on 1 April 2009. Rodin Alper Bingol and many volunteers walked on the streets with wheelchairs which carries placards instead of people. On the placards "This is not a joke, who wants to sit down here?" was written. Within the scope of Removing Barriers Movement, projects to raise social awareness for disability, and projects that include analyzing laws, urban planning and education systems are being conducted. Bingol also works for the establishment of the "Association Without Barriers". One of the projects of the association will be to increase the time period of looking for a house from 1 month to 2 months for tenants with disabilities.

Currently, Removing Barriers Movement has more than 20 thousand internet subscribers and the facebook group page of the awareness project has more than 420 thousand fans. Rodin Alper Bingol was selected as one of the "Ten Outstanding Young Persons" by Junior Chamber International Turkey Office for his contribution to human rights, children and world peace.
