Sabancı Foundation announced the 2009 grant recipients on 22 June 2009 as part of the United Nations Joint Program on "Promoting and Protecting the Human Rights of Women and Girls".  In 2009, there were 71 applicants, of which 24 were short listed. The following 12 projects were awarded grants. Projects were implemented through the end of 2010.
