Purple Certificate Program - 2014 Purple Certificate Program - 2014

Purple Certificate Program (PCP) which is a component of United Nations Joint Program for Promoting the Human Rights of Women took place between 22 - 27 June 2014 at Sabanci University. 41 applicants from 5 pilot provinces of the Program (Canakkale, Edirne, Erzincan, Kastamonu and Ordu) were invited to take part in PCP. 38 teachers received their certificates after successfully completing their 5-day intensive program.


In the opening ceremony of PCP that took place at Sabanci University, Prof. Dr. Sibel Irzik, coordinator for Gender and Women’s Studies Forum of Sabanci University, Zeynep Goknil Sanal, Head of Social Status Directorate of Ministry of Family and Social Policies, Ilkay Aydin, Head of Research, Development and Projects Unit of Teachers Training Directorate of Ministry of National Education and Zerrin Koyunsagan, General Manager of Sabanci Foundation were present.


The modules of PCP tried to inculcate in teachers effective methods to fight gender stereotypes, prejudices and discriminatory discourses related to gender. At the same time, the Program tried to turn teachers into role models who can pass on their newly acquired skills to their students. PSP modules were reinforced with films, reading workshops and discussion groups.

  • Movie Screening: “Innocent, Enticing, Arrogant”

  • Let’s Talk About Violence: Workshop on Violence, Sexual Violence and the Effect of Violence on Mental Health

In the closing ceremony that took place at Minerva Palace, 38 participant teachers received their certificates. Parallel to the closing ceremony, an evaluation session was conducted with the participation of teachers who expressed their views on the strengths and weaknesses of PCP. These views shaped both the re-structuring of coming PCPs as well as the supervision meetings held in pilot provinces.

Delivery of Local Trainings in 5 Provinces
208 high school teachers from 5 provinces participated to “Local Trainings”.


Targets of Trainings:

  • To introduce gender related concepts to a wider audience of teachers in order to raise gender awareness
  • To provide visual and written media materials and analyses
  • To introduce PCP, its targets and to invite teachers to the Program

22 - 27 June 2014

2014 Purple Certificate Program

  • Took place between 22 - 27 June 2014 at Sabanci University
  • 41 high school teachers from 5 provinces were invited.
  • At the end of 5 day Program, 38 high school teachers received their Purple Certificates.

16 - 31 October 2014

Supervision Meetings in 5 Provinces

36 high school teachers from 5 provinces participated to “Supervision Meetings”.


Targets and Scope of Meetings:

  • To facilitate the implementation of gender related projects by PCP holder teachers.
  • To brainstorm on issues such as “Let’s refresh our knowledge on PCP”, “What projects can you do in your own provinces?”
  • To introduce project implementers of Sabanci Foundation Grant Program with PCP holder teachers to facilitate joint projects

Follow-up Meetings in 5 Provinces

Targets of Meetings:

  • To give feed-back to PCP holder teachers on their projects
  • To talk with teachers on different strategies that they can use to succeed in their projects related to gender equality.
