Purpose: To fight against the social exclusion experienced by young people who were raised in government care

Period: 1 May 2014 – 1 September 2014

 

Background

Research has shown social exclusion is the most common problem experienced by young people who were raised in government care. In order to tackle this exclusion, success stories should come forward, young people raised in government care should be involved with rights based organizations and develop skills of social awareness and leadership. 

 

Project Goals

  • In Ankara and Izmir:
    • 25 young people aged between 15 and 29 who are in or recently left government care will attend a training camp for a week in Izmir.
    • Attendees of the camp will receive online mentoring for 2 months.
    • Attendees of the camp will realize their own projects/campaigns.
    • At the end of the project a two day evaluation meeting in Ankara will be organized with camp participants.

Project Results

  • In Ankara and Izmir:
    • 25 young people aged between 15 and 29 who are in or recently left government care attended a training camp for a week in Izmir. They received 40 hours of training from 10 different mentors on social entrepreneurship, project development and writing, communications, social media and campaign management, project opportunities, volunteering and intercultural learning.
    • For online mentoring 8 webinars were organized, 4 of them were shared on the website.
    • Camp participants came up with 21 project ideas; 5 of them were developed and realized. One of the projects named "Digital Volunteers" was awarded Bilgi University Young Social Entrepreneurs Award.
    • At the end of the project a two day evaluation meeting in Ankara was organized with camp participants.
