Held between May 24th- 28th, 2011 in Cascais, Lisbon-Portugal, the annual meeting of the EFC focused on the theme of “Resources and Sustainability-The Oceans” this year. Participants discussed opportunities and challenges that foundations face as they use their human, financial and intellectual resources to bring sustainable positive change to the world.
During the meeting where the candidates for membership to EFC Governing Council were voted on, Sabanci Foundation was the sole candidate from Turkey to make it onto the slate among the 30 foundations elected as members of the Governing Council. Sabanci Foundation Director of Programs and International Relations, Ms. Filiz Bikmen, will represent the Sabanci Foundation on the EFC Governing Council for a term of three years.
Sabanci Foundation attended various panels during the conference. Sabanci Foundation Director of Programs and International Relations, Filiz Bikmen, shared the knowledge and experience about Sabanci Foundation’s work in the area of women and girls in “Untapped Potential: European Foundation Funding for Women and Girls” panel. Ms. Bikmen also moderated the panel on “Evaluating Communications for Greater Impact” and presented examples of communication follow-up work at Sabanci Foundation while sharing experiences about Sabanci Foundation’s Turkey’s Changemakers Project.
