On 20 July 2012, Turkey's Changemakers program hosts the Foundation for the Support of Women’s Work (FSWW).
More than 2 years ago on 23 May 2010, the FSWW was featured on Turkey’s Changemakers. (For more information about the project click here) The founder of FSWW Şengül Akçar makes a difference in women’s lives through MAYA which is the first micro-credit project for women in Turkey. With this project, Şengül Akçar supports women entrepreneurs by improving their economic lives and creating new opportunities. Having received funding through the Sabanci Foundation’s Social Development Grant Program the “Micronet: The Micro Entrepreneur Women’s Work Portal”, project continues to make a difference in women’s lives by helping them make their businesses more sustainable and permanent.
Through “Micronet: The Micro Entrepreneur Women’s Work Portal” project, 1740 women entrepreneurs get support from 50 mentors who are volunteers working in private sector. With this support, women form a network where they exchange their knowledge and experiences. The micro entrepreneur women, who don’t know how to use the computer, first receive computer training. The project partners are: Corporate Volunteer Association, Youth for Habitat, First Step Women’s Cooperative, Ray of Hope Women’s Cooperative and Silk Road Women’s Cooperative.
