|Grant Program Experience Sharing Meeting (Nevsehir Dedeman Kapadokya Hotel) - 26 October 2009|
Sabanci Foundation organized the second “Experience Sharing Meeting” in Dedeman Kapadokya Hotel, Nevsehir so that 2008 grantees could share their experiences and success stories.
Ms. Guler Sabanci, the Chairman of the Board of Trustees of Sabanci Foundation, Mr. Osman Aydin, the Governor of Nevsehir, Mr. Mustafa Coggun, the Ministry of Interior UNJP National Director and Mr. Yusuf Kaya, the Deputy Mayor of Nevsehir attended the meeting alongside governors and mayors of the other provinces where the program is currently being implemented. Other participants included leaders of women’s NGOs, and national press members from Istanbul as well as local press members.
Mr. Yusuf Kaya, the Deputy Mayor of Nevsehir, and Mr. Mustafa Coggun, the Ministry of Interior UNJP National Director, Mr. Osman Aydin, the Governor of Nevsehir and Ms. Guler Sabanci, the Chairman of the Board of Trustees of Sabanci Foundation made opening remarks.
Ms. Guler Sabanci, the Chairman of the Board of Trustees of Sabanci Foundation, stated that: "The United Nations Joint Program To Protect and Promote the Human Rights of Women and Girls is a multilateral joint program. It has been successfully underway for almost four years."
Having also mentioned that Sabanci Foundation Grant Program funds projects which address priority areas of the Local Equality Action Plans, Ms. Guler Sabanci emphasized the following: "As the Sabanci Foundation, our main purpose in realizing the Grant Program is to support projects which address priorities of the Local Equality Action Plans and encourage local organizations to engage in this program. Thanks to projects that Sabanci Foundation Grant Program supported thus far we have reached 10.000 people directly and 100.000 indirectly. I hereby offer my sincere offer my gratitude to the projects and our Program partners for their great efforts and achievements."
Following the opening remarks, 2008 grantees shared their projects and experiences in a moderated panel facilitated by Filiz Bikmen Bugay of the Sabanci Foundation. In the question and answer session, they responded to participants’ and journalists’ queries regarding the challenges facing women in their communities and cities.
In the afternoon, 2008 and 2009 grantees were brought together to share experiences and learning. This session was facilitated by Ms. Rana Birden Corbacioglu, who initially shared the outcomes of a survey conducted with 2008 projects regarding their experiences and learnings during the process of implementing their projects. Following this session, projects engaged in two active workshops- “Speed Dating” (to encourage new relationships among grantees) and “Project Coaching” (in which 2009 project cohorts that will start their projects this year were coached on their projects by 2008 grantees which have completed their projects earlier this year).
On the second day, both 2008 and 2009 projects attended training seminars on on subjects of project management and communication strategies. These seminars were delivered by Rana Birden and Inanc Misirlioglu respectively.
