Background

Conflicts and acts of violence are very widespread at schools and public in general. Students tend to solve their problems through violence and harming each other. In order to decrease the level of violence at schools, it is necessary to chance their attitudes. 

 

Project Goals

  • In Ankara, Polatli:
    • In cooperation with the District Directorate of National Education, the “peer negotiation” model will be adopted to Polatli.
    • A 30-hour peer negotiating training will be delivered to 1,256 students from 9th and 10th grades of 10 high schools.
    • A negotiation room will be established in every high school where the conflicts between students will be solved through the mediation of negotiator students.
    • Teachers and parents of the students will be informed about conflict resolution and peer negotiation methods.
    • A booklet including the outcomes of the project will be published and shared with the interested parties.

Project Results

  • In Ankara, Polatli:
    • The "peer negotiation" model was adopted to Polatli in cooperation with the District Directorate of National Education.
    • 871 students from 10 high schools received "peer negotiation" training.
    • Negotiation rooms were opened in every high school and 87 conflicts were solved through the mediation of negotiator students.
    • Teachers and parents of the students were informed about conflict resolution and peer negotiation methods.
    • A booklet including the outcomes of the project was published and distributed to the interested parties.
