Because of a suitable climate and existence of fertile land, agriculture is an important source of income for citizens living in Aydin. However, as is the case in any other domain, male dominance in the cultivation of very traditional agricultural products such as cotton, olive, figs, fruits and vegetables impedes women from generating as much income as they could. In order to promote women’s economic empowerment in the agricultural sector in Aydin, alternative and sustainable work opportunities should be created and women’s labour should be promoted in all phases of agriculture from production to marketing.
- Target group of the project is 40 women living in Dalama and Umurlu, who have no profession and who are part of low income groups.
- Target group will be delivered trainings in flower farming and will be provided with flower seeds and land for cultivation.
- These trainings will be reinforced with trainings on gender equality, women’s solidarity, and cooperatives.
- Target group will set up its own cooperative at the end of the project.
