On 7 March 2010 Sabanci Foundation's "Turkey's Changemakers" program hosts Rodin Alper Bingol, a student in visual communications design at Bilgi University in Istanbul. Rodin Alper Bingol works for the active participation of people with disabilities to the production processes and social life through "Removing Barriers Movement".
In 2009, Rodin Alper Bingol wrote a thesis titled "Removing Barriers". Over time, his project has spread with the support of many individuals and organizations.
The Removing Barriers Movement works for the recognition of individuals' rights to make independent choices, reduce dependency and improve their abilities. To achieve its goals, the Removing Barriers Movement organized an awareness campaign on April 1, 2009. Rodin Alper Bingol and many volunteers walked on the streets with wheelchairs that carried confrontational and thought-provoking placards instead of people. On the placards "This is not a joke, who wants to sit down here?" was written. Within the scope of Removing Barriers Movement, projects to raise social awareness for disability, and projects that include analyzing laws, urban planning and education systems are being conducted. Bingol also works for the establishment of the "Association Without Barriers". One of the projects of the association will be to increase the time period of looking for a house from 1 month to 2 months for tenants with disabilities.
Currently, Removing Barriers Movement has more than 20 thousand internet subscribers and the facebook group page of the awareness project has more than 420 thousand fans. Rodin Alper Bingol was selected as one of the "Ten Outstanding Young Persons" by Junior Chamber International Turkey Office for his contribution to human rights, children and world peace.
