Founded in 1990 in the Cukurova Region, which has a great potential for the Turkish textile industry, the Textile Engineering Department of Cukurova University continues to improve.

The department building, completely financed by Sabanci Foundation, where the academic program is ongoing, has a total closed area of 3,000 square meters and has been built in a period shorter than a year and commissioned in 1996 as Sabanci Textile Engineering Department. The usage rights of the building have been transferred to Cukurova University.

The Textile Department started its undergraduate program in the academic year of 1993-1994, and had its first graduates in the academic year of 1996-1997. Additionally, it has been offering a postgraduate program since the academic year of 1993-1994, and a doctorate program since the academic year of 2002-2003.

A total of 400 students attend the Textile Engineering Department, established under the body of the Engineering-Architecture Faculty of the University. In the 3-storey building, there are 6 laboratories, 2 classrooms, each with a capacity of 45 students, a conference hall, a seminar hall, a library and administrative offices.
