|Union of Municipalities of the Marmara Region - Istanbul|
The building of the Union of Municipalities of The Marmara Region has been built by Sabanci Foundation in 1988 and the usage rights of the building have been transferred to Metropolitan Municipality. The Union facility has been established on an area of 950 square meters with a closed area of 800 square meters.
The Union of Municipalities of The Marmara Region has been founded by the municipalities which are located on the shores of Marmara Sea, the Bosphorus and the Dardanelles to prevent the pollution of the sea, to protect the fishery products, to coordinate various municipal services - especially the initiatives with the tourism institutions - and to solve the current environmental problems.
The scope of the Association is limited to the boundaries of the municipalities that are members of the Association. The Association has approximately 230 member municipalities including 11 central municipalities in Marmara. One of the most important objectives of the Union is to assist in local administrations and municipalities providing more efficient services to the public by developing the coordination and solidarity between the local administrations and municipalities.
At the ground floor of the building, the History Foundation is located. On the first floor there is Local Administrations Academy under the Turkish-German Environmental Center and on the second floor, the Union of Municipalities of The Marmara Region.
