Background

According to the statistics compiled by World Health Organization, every year 15 million youngsters between the ages of 15-19 give birth. Early pregnancy is always more fatal for the child bearing mother. Some of the sexual infections acquired during adolescence can have more dire consequences for the latter health of women. According to experts, it is of utmost importance to assure youngsters that each individual goes through various physical changes during their puberty which starts at a unique time according to their own biological clock and that there is nothing to be stressed about this uniqueness. There is a need for reliable education programs on body and sexual health for young people.

 

Project Goals

-  Reaching girls at secondary and tertiary level dorms in Kastamonu to explain gender roles and stereotypes and related prejudices

- Giving basic education on sexual health, reproductive health, sexual harassment and exploitation

- Reaching between 360-600 girls in a total of 5 secondary school dorms and 7 tertiary education dorms

- Creation of a help-desk at Turkish Association of Mothers, for girls who need counselling (estimated to be around 30-60) after sexual health trainings
