6th International May 19th Disabled Youth Festival
6. International May 19th Youth with Disabilities Festival supported by Sabanci Foundation will take place on 19 May 2010 in Adana.
The festival, organized by Adana City Council Committee of People with Disabilities aims to encourage social inclusion and participation of people with disabilities and raise public awareness of disability issue.
5th International May 19th Disabled Youth Festival
The 5th International Disabled Youth Festival took place on 18-19 May 2009 in Adana, and was supported by Sabanci Foundation with contributions from the Governor’s Office and Adana Metropolitan Municipality.
The festival, organized by Adana City Council Committee of Persons with Disabilities, aims to encourage social inclusion and participation of persons with disabilities, and raise social awareness regarding disability issues.
The festival started with a theater show and parade on May 18, Monday. On the second day of the festival, May 19th, shows and fairs continued in Adana hippodrome with the participation of Adana Governor, İlhan Atış and Sabanci Foundation’s Board Member, Ms. Dilek Sabanci. Ms. Sabanci said “the festival has a very important role in transforming prejudices against persons with disabilities, the more we support children and youth with disabilities the more opportunities they find to participate in society.”
This year, 92 students with disabilities and their teachers from Sweden, Bulgaria, Romania, Syria, Azerbaijan and Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus participated in the 5th International Disabled Youth Festival, reaching an audience of an estimated 3000 people.
