Background

Although Mardin is a multilingual and multicultural city, there are limited social and cultural opportunities for youth. There is a need for culture and art events that will attract young people for social participation.

Project Results

  • The project partner performed a play called “Lorca’s Tragic Comedy” in Mardin Kızıltepe Cumhuriyet High School. After the play, a discussion was held about the writer’s life and plays with the participation of 500 students who watched the play.
  • 12 high school students attended theater workshops for 8 months and adapted the play called “Tragic Comedy of Don Cristobita and Dona Rosita”.
  • The students performed the play in Mardin Kızıltepe Cumhuriyet High School and İstanbul Şişli Terakki High School. Almost 600 students watched the performances in two schools.
  • Multiculturalism, living together and gender equality themes were deeply analyzed with the participants through workshops.
  • A booklet explaining the model, workshop contents, participant and trainer testimonials was prepared and disseminated to interested parties.
