Sabanci Holding's Executive Board Presidentand Sabanci Foundation Chairman of the Board of Trustees Ms. Guler Sabanci received theClinton Global Citizen Award,on behalf of the Clinton Global Initiativeestablished by former U.S. President Bill Clinton. Ms. Sabanci received the award in the “Leadership in Corporate Sector” category, for her contributions to promoting the human rights of women and girls and supporting the social, cultural and economic development of Turkey.

At the award ceremony in New York on 22 September 2011, Clinton recognized recipients for their leadership in global development: “These six extraordinary individuals have persevered in finding innovative solutions to improve education, provide access to health care for the world’s poorest people, and protect the environment, and they deserve to be celebrated”.

In her acceptance speech, Ms. Sabanci referred to the importance of Sabanci Foundation’s programs which focus on the rights of women and girls: “I am pleased to say the Sabanci Foundation collaborated with UN agencies and Turkey’s Ministry of Interior to improve the human rights of women and girls. This participative partnership in philanthropy has been an exemplary one and has made a real difference. Now we will continue with UN Women, enlarging the scope of the project for another 3 year period.” The award was presented to Sabanci by Muhtar Kent, the President and Chief Executive Officer of The Coca-Cola Company: “It is my honor to present this award to Ms Sabanci, for her dedicated efforts to raise awareness that women’s rights are human rights and for her support for programs targeting women and girls rights in Turkey”.

Established in 2005 by the former USA President Bill Clinton,the mission of the Clinton Global Initiative is to inspire, connect, and empower a community of global leaders to forge solutions to the world's most pressing challenges. Launched in 2007, among fellow recipients of the award are Warren Buffet’s son and daughter in law Jennifer Buffet_Peter Buffet, former chairman of the Coca Cola Company Neville Isdell, AVON Products chairman and CEO Andrea Jung, and Paul Bakker, the CEO of TNT.
