Background

Students with disabilities cannot enjoy the opportunities of universities on the same level as their non-disabled peers. There is a need for a system where students with disabilities can express their demands and raise their voice in universities.

Project Results

  • 28 university students with disabilities all around Turkey came together during the workshops in Ankara and İstanbul.
  • Participants attended workshops on how to analyze accessibility of their universities and how to support each other after the project.
  • After the workshops “The Initiative of University Students with Disabilities” is established. The Initiative aims to continue working on the problems faced by university students with disabilities.
  • Data on accessibility of universities was gathered from 11 different universities. In 6 universities students lobbied for accessibility.
  • The data gathered from different universities became a source for the “Recommendations for an Accessible University Booklet”.
  • In order to spot the light on the accessibility of universities a short movie was prepared titled “Barriers.”
