Organized in collaboration with the Ministry of Culture and Tourism’s State Theatres and the Sabancı Foundation, the State Theatres – Sabancı International Adana Theatre Festival, Turkey’s longest-running international theatre festival, opened its curtains on April 1 with a grand ceremony.
First held in 1998 under the leadership of Sakıp Sabancı, the festival has since gained international recognition and become one of the most prestigious events in Turkey’s theatre scene. The opening ceremony was attended by Governor of Adana Yavuz Selim Köşger, Sabancı Foundation General Manager Nevgül Bilsel Safkan, and General Director of State Theatres Tamer Karadağlı. After a three-year break, the festival brought together the people of Adana once again, starting with a mesmerizing performance by the world-renowned Dutch performance group Close Act, which spread across the streets of Adana. The festival will continue until April 27, offering theatre lovers a rich and diverse program.
As in previous years, this year’s edition features performances by both local and international theatre companies. In addition to stage plays, the festival will host a variety of events such as workshops, talks, and street performances, transforming the city into a cultural hub.
