The Turkey Youth Philharmonic Orchestra (TUGFO), whose establishment was pioneered and main support provided by Sabancı Foundation, continues its 2024 tour. On July 24, the orchestra met music lovers at the second stop of its concert program at the Atatürk Cultural Center (AKM), delivering an unforgettable experience to the audience. TUGFO will continue to perform at important concert halls and festivals in the Netherlands, Italy, and Germany until August 10.
Supported by Sabancı Foundation and operating under the Sevda-Cenap And Music Foundation, Turkey Youth Philharmonic Orchestra (TUGFO), conducted by Maestro Cem Mansur, performed its highly anticipated Istanbul concert on the evening of July 24 at the Atatürk Cultural Center (AKM).
TUGFO offered an enjoyable concert experience in the Türk Telekom Opera Hall at AKM, which has a capacity of over 2,000 spectators. With its wide repertoire, the orchestra once again captivated the audience. The music-filled evening featured works by Hector Berlioz, Sergey Rachmaninoff, Ege Gür, and Sergey Prokofiev, with pianist Daniel Ciobanu accompanying the orchestra. Additionally, the piece “Image of the Invisible,” composed by young composer Ege Gür in memory of those who lost their lives in last year’s earthquake disaster, was performed for the first time for music lovers.
TUGFO Winds in Europe
Comprising 80 young musicians aged 16-22, selected through auditions from conservatories across Turkey, TUGFO will meet its audiences in major cultural centers such as Amsterdam, Venice, and Berlin during its international tour. The first stop of the tour abroad will be the prestigious Concertgebouw in Amsterdam, the capital of the Netherlands, on July 26. On July 28, the orchestra will perform at the Salo Festival in Italy and on July 30, it will present a delightful recital at Scuola Grande di San Rocco in Venice. TUGFO will conclude the season with its final concert on August 10 at the Konzerthaus in Berlin, Germany.
As Turkey’s most dynamic orchestra, whose main supporter has been Sabancı Foundation for 16 years, TUGFO offers young musicians valuable orchestral experience before they become professionals. In addition to concert opportunities at domestic and international festivals, the orchestra provides exchange programs between orchestras.
