This Week's Changemaker; Ercan Tutal Makes a Difference in the Lives of People with Disabilities
On 18 October 2009 Sabanci Foundation's "Turkey's Changemakers" program hostsErcan Tutal who runs camps and programs for persons with disabilities. In the camps, disabled persons learn how to scuba dive, and participate in all sorts of artistic and sports activities.
Havingstudied various institutions and projects in Europe, Tutal designed Turkey’sfirst“AlternativeCamp” for youth with disabilities. Camp participantstake part insports, drama, dance, photography and musiccourses,while also receiving supportthroughlife coaching.
Nominated to be an Ashoka Fellow, Ercan has always been keen to make a difference in the lives of persons living with disabilities. For several years, Ercan has been running the "Alternative Camp" for youth with disabilities and is the first and only instructor who can teach the disabled to dive.
