The second Changemaker of the 10th season of the Sabancı Foundation Turkey’s Changemakers Program is Informal Learning Youth Center, a social enterprise where young people learn from each other, experience life and share.
Informal Education Youth Center, YASOM, was founded by a group of young people mentored by Hulya Denizalp in 2011. The center was built up to raise awareness on “learning by experience” and create an open space for young people to develop activities in accordance with their own wishes and needs.
All the projects are organized by young people aged 18-30 at YASOM. Up until today, the center has hosted various activities and projects such as peer training model, personal development and hobby workshop in 151 different subjects; 8 speaking clubs; 7 community support projects.
Informal Learning Youth Center has made more than 50 partnerships at national and international level. The center has won 13 different prizes with its projects. There are young people from different countries within the center. Foreign volunteers both teach their own language and culture and learn Turkish culture.
Informal Learning Youth Center has about 150 active volunteers today. Also, anybody may benefit from all YASOM workshops free of charge.
Informal Learning Youth Center started its journey with the principle of creating a new model. It developed projects with the philosophy of learning has no place, time and age. Until today, the Center has touched thousands of young people’s life. It inspired them. It helped to improve sharing culture. The Center has made a huge difference both in civil society and young people’s lives.
