The second Changemaker of the 9th season of the Sabancı Foundation Turkey’s Changemakers Program is Leyla’dan Sonra (After Leyla), which is an initiative that helps to realize the dreams of children who undergo medical treatment.
Leyla’dan Sonra was founded in 2014 by medical students with the aim of realizing the dreams of children with chronic illnesses and spending quality time with them. Volunteer students visit regularly children in pediatric centers. During these visits, they play games with children to help them move away from the atmosphere of the hospital and to fulfill their wishes.
Leyla’dan Sonra team is currently active in 45 medical faculties. Approximately 4,500 medical students work to realize the wishes of children who undergo medical treatment. Thanks to thousands of supporters that answered the call of volunteer students, from bicycle to trip, from toy to instrument, 3,500 different wishes of children could be fulfilled.
Leyla’dan Sonra became the hope for children who must spend some of their childhood in the hospital and made their little dreams come true. It helped their treatment process. Thus, it made a huge difference both in this difficult period of the families, and in the lives of children.
