BACKGROUND

Alzheimer's disease is a disease that not only the patient but also their environment struggles for years, requires 24/7 care, has no curative treatment, progresses, and makes the individual mentally, spiritually and physically disabled. Therefore, both the patient and the caregiver need psychological, economic, social and legal support. Although the Alzheimer's Association of Türkiye has established a wide information network through its branches, it has been realised that messages cannot be conveyed as effectively to Alzheimer's patients and their relatives living in regions where there are no branches, especially in regions where access is difficult due to physical distance. There is a need to establish permanent relationships and ensure the sustainability of services by directly reaching the regions in question.

PROJECT GOALS

  • An advisory board consisting of experts and patient relatives will be formed.
  • Scenarios for the 4-module training program and Experience Sharing Workshops will be prepared.
  • At least 2 psychologists and 8 trainers will participate in orientation and pilot training in Istanbul
  • A video of the training module will be recorded.
  • In 5 provinces, trainings and workshops will be organised for 2 days with the participation of 4 trainers and 1 psychologist for at least 30 and on average 50 patients and their relatives.
  • A minimum of 5 and maximum 20 awareness ambassadors will be identified for each province and a communication network will be established.
  • Online Awareness Ambassadors Refresher and Evaluation Workshops will be held 2 times with awareness ambassadors and their activities will be monitored locally.
  • Dementia Strategy and Policy Development Suggestions will be prepared for local problems and needs.
  • Awareness ambassadors who reach the most participants will be invited to an Information and Experience Exchange Visit in Istanbul.
