The Business Against Domestic Violence (BADV) Project is carried out by the Sabancı University Corporate Governance Forum in cooperation with TÜSİAD (Turkish Industry and Business Association) and supported by the Sabancı Foundation and the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA). The project is designed to create support mechanisms in workplaces against domestic violence and make violence against women more visible, and identify ways of prevention and support against domestic violence by using the managerial and organizational capabilities of the business world.
The project aims to raise awareness of women's human rights and gender equality in the business world and to improve the working environment of women for them to be able to take a more active role in business life. The project aims to implement policies and mechanisms to prevent and reduce violence against women in all over Turkey. To this day, representatives of 73 companies have received Gender Equality trainer training within the context of the project. These companies operate in İstanbul, Antalya, İzmir and Bursa. The Project also aims to ensure that companies take gender equality as a business performance and economic–social development issue in ensuring sustainable employment.
It is planned that 10 to 15 companies will receive training in 2021. In addition, an evaluation form specific to the policies and practices of the companies that implement the project and establish their internal policies will be created. This evaluation form will ensure that the effectiveness of the policies is measured, and the necessary measures are taken to increase their benefits.
At the beginning of 2021, “Institutional Policy Development and Implementation Guide for Municipalities Concerning Combating Domestic Violence Against Women” was published in order to support local administrations as well as companies to develop policies and practices regarding the violence they are exposed to in the household. The pilot implementation of the guide will take place in 3 to 5 municipalities in 2021.
