Women residents at Suphan District
Suphan, one of Van's poorest districts, has a very high rate of immigration and a very traditional societal structure which does not allow for women to be active in society outside of the household. Within the framework of this project, a women’s center will be established where women and young girls can attend literacy courses, informative meetings about their legal rights and to be trained as hairdressers. The women’s center will have 2 meeting rooms, 1 hairdressing workshop and a kids’ playroom where participants can leave their kids during the meetings and trainings. At the center, local women and girls will be trained by qualified trainers assigned by the Community Training Center in literacy classes and hairdressing workshops for 6 months. Ultimately, this project aims to provide support and services to women so that they can be more actively involved in society.
