The Ancient City of Metropolis - Excavation House - İzmir
An excavation team led by Assistant Professor Serdar Aybek from the Archeology Department of Celal Bayar University has been running The Metropolis Archeological Excavations, which have been going on since 1990 on behalf of the Ministry of Culture and Tourism and Celal Bayar University.
Sabancı Foundation has been supporting archaeological excavations in the ancient city of Metropolis, located in İzmir Torbalı district, since 2003.
The Excavation House, which has two floors and a closed area of 900 m² and is used as an accommodation and working area by the teams carrying out the excavation work, is an old building that has served for many years, and with the comprehensive renovation works of the Sabancı Foundation, the building has become a comfortable environment for the excavation team with 21 guest rooms, research and work areas, laboratories and storage areas.
