Önder and Kale neighbourhoods in Ankara's Altındağ district are socio-economically disadvantaged neighbourhoods with a high refugee population, where children from different cultural backgrounds live together, school attendance rates are low, and child labour rates are high. Children need to be aware of their rights as well as the history and opportunities of the city so that they can gain experiences outside of their environment and benefit from the opportunities of the city they live in. With the development of urban awareness and belonging to the city, children will be able to claim their rights.
“Our greatest purpose is to enable children to express themselves freely so that they may talk about their limitless dreams. Our project has thus allowed children to design their dream cities and share them with the local administrations.” İbrahim Enes Duruay – Founder, Hempa Children’s Association
