Background

ALS patients, whose lives radically change after being discharged from the intensive care unit, start to live in the care of their relatives who are not informed about the intensive care conditions at home. This is a traumatic and despairing period both for the patients and the families.

Project Goals

  • ALS patients in selected cities will be visited at home.
  • Two workshops will be organized in Ankara and Istanbul with the participation of public institutions and interested NGOs.
  • A qualified, sustainable and economic home-care model will be developed at the workshops.

Project Results

  • 58 ALS patients were reached in the project cities, each patient was visited about 3 times at their homes.
  • Qualified medical staff informed ALS patients and their families about the disease and home care during the visits.
  • A workshop was organized in Ankara in order “to develop a qualified, sustainable and economic home-care model” for ALS patients.
  • The suggestions discussed at the workshop were gathered in a book to share with interested parties.
