Background

It is known that visually impaired children do not feel enough in lessons such as mathematics and science and prefer social studies in their continuing education lives because of tactile learning, which can replace visual learning is almost never used except for Braille textbooks. However, it is scientifically proven that if children with visual impairments also benefit from tactile methods adapted to them, their numerical skills will develop as well as their verbal skills.

Project Goals

  • Tactile Training Module will be designed.
  • A total of 720 hours of training will be given to 30 visually impaired children between the ages of 6-14.
  • Measurement and evaluation set will be designed and tactile measurement and evaluation will be applied to 30 children.

Project Results

  • “Geometry Tactile Training Module” was designed for children with visual disabilities.
  • A total of 367 hours of training was given to 16 children with visual disabilities between the ages of 6-14.
  • A tactile measurement and evaluation set was designed and it was applied to 30 children.
  • A teacher workshop was held for the dissemination of the project.
  • In addition to the trainings, a workshop was held with 6 children with visual disabilities to support their tactile skills in subjects other than geometry.
